We visited on 20.02.18. I travelled there by train from Huddersfield.

There were alternative stations, but a lot more city trains travel through this one than the alternative, which was Halifax.

City trains have a much better layout for wheelchair users. Local trains can be hard work, especially at peak times much more smaller wheelchair bays, lots of commuters etc.
I didn’t book assistance in advance although it is recommended.  The staff were very helpful & ensured the ramp was deployed safely both on and off the train.

Here there is something for everyone .I found there  is  a variety different displays, the lift going up to the gallery is very interesting with all the different displays to view.

They have staff to help with enquiries. .I found them very helpful when i enquired with one or two things.
There is a lot to take in on one visit, and if you have family with you then its all  the more enjoyable ,there are things for children to do,with play areas, buggy area for the yong, miniature railway displays, and virtual rides which  aren't very accessible so i gave them a miss, but a lot of people found them very enjoyable.
Trains through the ages are fascinating.

Particularly interesting I found was the first aid train in the wartime which was one of the accessible trains.

the displays were very good and the lifts up to the a train train easy to use.
There is a mini train up to York Minster.

Which is always busy and very popular and rightly so
I approached staff & asked if they had thought about including a wheelchair carriage given the amount of wheelchair users with families that were visiting as i was there.
They agreed it was a very good idea. Here’s hoping after all..

I made my own way into York, which wasn't  far at all . Being an historic city  it's  not the most accessible  , but there are still Gems to be  found.
