Entrance 'Automatic Doors'
My Experience:-
I have been to the Vue a few times since it has opened, and I must say as a wheelchair user myself I have not been to another cinema again. In the past I always used to go to Cineworld in Bradford but I only got to sit at the bottom first row, which meant me looking up through out the entire movie and at the end of it I would end up with a bad neck and back for days. Thanks to the Vue in Halifax they have specifically got balconies at the top back for wheelchair users which is so relaxing and pain free, so I get to enjoy the whole movie. So on this day I went back with Alison to watch Bohemian Rhapsody Movie which was great and then was shown around the Vue by a member of staff so I could do a blog for you all to see what is accessible.

Lift to first floor
Lift, Escalators and Stairs :-
As soon as you enter the main entrance on your right hand side you will see there are escalators and stairs going up to the first floor or right in front of you there is a lift which takes you up to the first floor to the Vue. The lift is small so you can only get one wheelchair in at a time.

 Venue and screen access:-
Vue Halifax has wheelchair access through out the venue and in all screens. The venue is accessed through two sets of double doors, one is automatic. All screens are on one floor with access by stairs and lift. There's step free access to the wheelchair spaces and adjoining seats, and three accessible toilets - one by screen 2 and 3, one by screen 5 and 6, and one on the mezzanine.(Taken from vue website).

Wheelchair Accessible Counter

Wheelchair Accessible Counter:-
This is a lower counter for any wheelchair users just let a member of staff know you are there and they will be happy to help and serve you.

Lift/ fire exit on 2nd floor

second floor:-
To get to the second floor a member of staff will take you up to the second floor as a special key is required. just keep in mind the lift is small for two wheelchair users at once. This is to access the balconies at the back. There is also an accessible toilet and a ramp leading to screen 1. The second floor is an access to the top balconies which are accessible for all wheelchair users.

Top Back Balcony
Back Balcony:-

Screen 1-4 are on the second floor, they all have the balconies at the back which have 2 seats for a carers, family or friends. Screen 2-4 have room in between the chairs for 1 wheelchair user and screen 1 is my favourite which has room for 2 wheelchairs so if you have a friend who is a wheelchair user you both can be next to each other and enjoy the movie together.

First floor waiting area and corridors to each screen

 Waiting area & corridors to each screen:-
Above we have the entrance leading to where you hand your tickets in and will be shown which screen you are in and they will also help you carry your snacks in etc. They also have a waiting area in case you are early and your screen is not ready yet. As you can see it is all level access and plenty of space to manoeuvre around in your wheelchair.

 Accessible bays at the bottom front:-
Screen 1 to 9 all have front seat accessible bays / seats. You can get the full listing off the vue website.
Screen 7

*CEA Card
You can also apply for a CEA Card. The CEA Card is a national card scheme developed by the UK Cinemas. Under the disability provision of the Equality Act 2010, cinema operators have obligations to make reasonable adjustments in order to facilitate disable people going to the cinema. For disabled people, this may mean a carer might be needed to assist them.

The card enables a disabled cinema guest to receive a complimentary ticket for someone to go with them when they visit a participating cinema.

The card is also one way for cinemas to make sure they look after their disabled guests. If you require an adjustment to visit a cinema because of your disability, cinema staff should make them for you whether you have a CEA Card or not. (Taken from www.ceacard.co.uk website).

 What does the CEA Card entitle me to?
The CEA Card entitles you to ONE free ticket for someone to accompany you to the cinema to provide the assistance you may need. The free ticket is provided on the assumption that the person who accompanies you can provide you with appropriate assistance, this may include:-
* helping you move around the cinema including finding and taking a seat,
*helping you leave the cinema in the event of an emergency,
*accompanying and/or helping you use the cinema's toilets,
*helping you buy refreshments.

Who is eligible for a card?
Eligibility criteria may be updated from time to time. The current list is :-
* Disability Living Allowance (DLA)
* Attendance Allowance (AA)
* Personal Independence Payment (PIP)
* Armed Forces Independence Payment (AFIP)
* Severely Sight Impaired Registration (formerly Registered Blind)
* Sight Impaired Registration (formerly Partially Sighted)

The licence conditions placed on cinemas by local authorities generally require children under the age of 8 to be accompanied. For that reason, Cardholders must be 8 years of age or older.

How long is the card valid for?
The card is valid for 1 year from the date of issue. The date is displayed on the card.

Why is there a £6.00 fee to pay?
The £6.00 fee covers a number of costs in running the scheme, such as maintaining the website, processing applications and producing the card.

Who should I contact if I need help?
* CEA Card, PO Box 199, Deeside. CH5 9BW.

* Telephone:- 01244 526 016.

* Opening Times:- 9am - 5pm
